Your data, protected

How the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement collects, uses and protects your personal data, in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.

In short: we collect only what we need to organise the movement, you choose to give it, we never sell it, and you can ask us to delete it at any time.

Who we are

The PBAT Door-to-Door Movement (“the movement”, “we”) is the data controller for personal data collected through this website and the PBAT Door-to-Door platform. You can reach us about anything in this notice through our contact page — choose the topic “Data request”.

What we collect

  • When you join: phone number, full name, gender, age range, occupation (optional), state, LGA, ward, polling unit (optional), whether you have your PVC, and how you would like to volunteer.
  • When you log door-to-door activity: the area visited, number of households and people reached, issues residents raised, notes, and — only if you choose — your GPS location and a photo.
  • When you contact us: your name, phone or email, state and message.
  • If someone invited you: the member number of the person who invited you.

Because membership shows support for a political cause, we treat your membership itself as sensitive personal data under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, and process it only with your explicit consent.

We never record how any individual resident intends to vote, and we do not collect information about residents you visit — only totals for the area.

Why we use it

  • To connect you with your ward, LGA and state coordinators and organise campaign activity.
  • To send you announcements, event invitations and information about collecting your PVC.
  • To issue your digital membership card and let residents verify that an ambassador is genuine.
  • To measure the movement's reach and understand the issues communities care about, in aggregate.
  • To keep vehicles and equipment accountable to named coordinators.

Our lawful basis

We rely on your explicit consent, given when you join. You can withdraw it at any time; this does not affect anything we did before you withdrew.

Who can see your data

  • Coordinators see members only for the area they are responsible for (ward, LGA, state or zone). Phone numbers are masked in lists.
  • Card verification: anyone who scans your membership card or enters your member number can see your name, role, ward, LGA and state, and whether your membership is active — so residents can confirm you are genuine. Your phone number is never shown.
  • Trusted service providers who host the platform or send SMS on our behalf, under contracts that require them to protect your data.

We never sell your data or share it for advertising.

How long we keep it

We keep your data while you remain a member. After the 2027 general election cycle we will delete or anonymise member data we no longer need, unless you ask us to keep you on as a member.

Your rights

Under the NDPA 2023 you can ask us to:

  • give you a copy of the data we hold about you;
  • correct anything that is wrong;
  • delete your data and end your membership;
  • stop using your data for a particular purpose, or withdraw your consent.

Send a request through the contact page (topic “Data request”). If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).

How we protect it

Access is limited by role, phone numbers are masked in lists, sign-in requires a code sent to your phone, and data is sent over encrypted connections. Visits you log without network are stored on your own device until they can be sent.

Age

Membership is for people aged 18 and over.

Draft for the prototype — to be reviewed and approved by the movement's legal adviser before launch.
